Renewables in Africa

January 14, 2021

Africa is the second largest and second most populous continent, and has the world’s fastest growing population. 43% of the population is under the age of 15. Its economies are diverse with East Africa leading GDP growth rates – averaging close to 6% a year since 2008. Yet 600m people, or nearly half the African population lack access to power. Power is foundational and the need is enormous – and getting bigger.

In a unique opportunity to fill that need – Fortis Green Renewables provides capital to small scale renewable energy assets across Sub Saharan Africa. This market has large capital gaps, which they are addressing in order to unlock more clean power for Africa.

If you want learn more about the need, why Fortis Green was started, and hear what shaped the Co-Founder to move his family to Rwanda Africa we recommend listening to our brief podcast interview with Jonathan Shafer, and – if you would like to learn about more opportunities to impact Africa please contact us.
